Russian pig iron output falls almost 6% in H1 2026 as Urals plants are urged to pivot to the domestic market

Russia's ferrous metallurgy ended the first half of 2026 with pig iron smelting down almost 6 percent year on year and steel output also lower, according to Rossiyskaya Gazeta. Sales have become the acute problem for most plants, including in the Urals, pushing producers toward import substitution. Up to 75 percent of flat stainless rolled product used in Russia is still supplied from abroad.

Chicago wheat firms on tender demand while corn and soybeans slide

September soft red winter wheat on CBOT rose to $235.98 per tonne on 5 August 2026 after Algeria bought about 720,000 tonnes at around $289 per tonne C&F. Corn fell 5 1/2 cents on a NOAA forecast of 1 to 4 inches of rain across the Corn Belt, while soybeans eased. The European Commission cut its EU soft wheat crop forecast to 124.4 million tonnes.
