Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for vermouth and flavoured wine in Northern Africa expanded from 7.1 million liters in 2018 to 7.8 million liters in 2023, though not without volatility. A notable surge lifted consumption to 7.8 million liters in 2019, followed by two consecutive annual declines that brought the market down to 6.9 million liters in 2021. The sector rebounded strongly in 2022, adding over 800 000 liters, and then stabilized near the 7.8 million liter mark in 2023.

Preliminary 2024 trade data shows imports decreased to 95 000 liters while exports rose to 13 000 liters. During the year, regulatory developments such as the EU Regulation 2021/2117 on flavoured wine product definitions and labeling, alongside a growing industry focus on sustainability and IGP certifications, began to shape the operating environment for vermouth and flavoured wine producers in the region.
