By 2024, broader regional and global factors emerged. Intra-African trade grew by 12.4%, enhancing potential export and distribution channels for wine. Grape wine production in Northern Africa declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, the region produced 77.3 million liters, marking a sharp 14.0% drop from the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 17.5%, which translates to an average annual decrease of 6.2%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 97.7 million liters, with the largest year-on-year increase of 4.4% also occurring that year.

Grape wine production in Northern Africa declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the output was valued at 163.9 million US dollars, showing a steep 37.7% fall compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production value decreased by 29.6%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -11.0%. The peak value was reached in 2018 at 304.1 million US dollars, when the largest increase of 30.6% was recorded.

Between 2017 and 2020, France was the primary buyer of grape wine from Northern Africa, accounting for 83.3% of total exports in volume. The remaining share was distributed among a diverse group of other countries.

After two years of growth, grape wine exports from Northern Africa declined. In 2020, exports amounted to 7 897 thousand US dollars, indicating an intense 49.0% drop from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports decreased by 45%, with a CAGR of -18.0%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 15 493 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 4.3%.
