The garlic market in Uzbekistan showed fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. In 2018, production was supported by government measures to stimulate plantings, including a presidential decree targeting garlic and vegetable crops for the 2018 harvest. However, market volume fell the following year. A rebound occurred in 2020 after the adoption of a decree specifically aimed at increasing garlic production and exports through the 'tuksanbosti' method, which helped lift the market to 231 thousand tons.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 disrupted supply chains and demand, leading to a contraction in the market to 195 thousand tons. From 2022 onward, the implementation of legal reforms that improved the business climate, along with continued state support for the agro-industrial complex, supported a recovery. By 2023, market volume had grown to 225 thousand tons, bolstered by Uzbekistan's strengthening position on the global garlic market and rising exports.

In 2024, amendments to the Customs Code to streamline export procedures and the updated Agriculture Development Strategy for 2020-2030 were enacted, further shaping the regulatory environment for garlic production and trade in Uzbekistan.

The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 254.9 thousand tons, which represented an 18.9% increase. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 15.1%.

In 2020, the value of garlic output in Uzbekistan reached 197.0 million US dollars, showing a gradual increase of 4.8% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production value rose by 2.4%, with an average annual growth rate of 0.8%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 187.9 million US dollars, representing a 5.4% decline. The peak value occurred in 2018 at 198.7 million US dollars.

Between 2017 and 2020, exports dropped by 47.2%, equivalent to an annualized decline of 19.2%. The highest export volume was recorded in 2018 at 5 202 tons, which saw a 28.5% increase.
