The Armenian garlic market experienced an overall contraction from 10 587 tons in 2018 to 9 022 tons in 2023. The most pronounced drop occurred in 2020 when market volume fell to 8 970 tons, a decline of over 11% from the previous year. This was followed by a rebound in 2021 to 9 789 tons, but the market could not sustain that level and gradually decreased over the next two years.

Domestic garlic production followed a similar declining trend, falling from 10 490 tons in 2018 to 8 319 tons in 2023. Imports, while starting from a low base of 97 tons in 2018, increased significantly to 884 tons by 2022 before easing to 703 tons in 2023. The growth in imports partially offset the reduction in local output, but the total market size still shrank over the period. By 2023, the market showed signs of stabilization with only a marginal decrease.

Armenia's garlic production has declined for the third year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 8 633 tons of garlic, representing a 14.4% decrease compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 31.5%, with an average annual decline rate of 11.9%.
