Fruit and vegetable juices market in Morocco

The Moroccan fruit and vegetable juice market volume grew from 178 million liters in 2018 to 209 million liters in 2019, but then contracted sharply to 126 million liters in 2020. The industry has historically relied on imported concentrates for processing, while local fruit production has been largely directed to the fresh market, limiting the base for domestic juice manufacturing.

Market volume recovered to 204 million liters in 2021 and continued growing to 232 million liters in 2022. This expansion was supported by increasing consumer preference for healthy beverages and intensified competition following the entry of Juice & Nectar Partner into the Holmarcom group, which brought new dynamics to the supply side.

In 2023, the market volume decreased to 160 million liters. This decline coincided with the adoption of a new law governing fruit and vegetable beverages, which introduced a detailed typology for juices based on production processes, likely requiring operational adjustments from producers.

In 2020, Morocco produced 126.6 million liters of fruit and vegetable juices, marking a sharp year-over-year decline of 41.6%. Over the 2017-2020 period, production fell by 33.7%, with an average annual decrease of 12.8%. The peak was in 2019 at 217.0 million liters, which also saw the largest annual increase of 16.6%.

After two years of growth, Morocco's fruit and vegetable juice production volume declined. In 2020, output was valued at 128.4 million US dollars, reflecting a sharp reduction of 40.5% compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, production decreased by 32.9%, equating to an annualized rate of 12.5%. The maximum value was recorded in 2019 at 215.9 million US dollars, which also saw the largest annual increase of 6.9%.

Following a two-year rise, fruit and vegetable juice exports from Morocco declined. In 2020, exports totaled 5 772 thousand liters, corresponding to an abrupt reduction of 57.3% over the past year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports decreased by 53%, with an average annual decline of 22.3%. The peak was in 2019 at 13 512 thousand liters, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2018 at 9.9%.

From 2017 to 2020, the Netherlands (50.5% of exports in kind), France (16.9% of exports in kind), and Mali (9.6% of exports in kind) were the leading destinations for Morocco's fruit and vegetable juice exports, collectively accounting for 76.9% of total flows.

The maximum value was recorded in 2018 at 14 652 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest annual increase of 19.0%.
