Ecuador's rice industry expects to export 60,000 tonnes of milled rice by the end of September 2026, driven by the reopening of the Colombian market, according to Corpcom president Juan Pablo Zúñiga. Lower yields from high temperatures and a cost disadvantage versus Peru and Mercosur are pushing the sector toward productivity gains and storage investment.
Russia's fishing and fish processing industry produced 2.85 million tonnes in the first eight months of 2026, down 2.5% year on year, according to a study by the Association of Fishing Fleet Shipowners. Fillet output rose more than 11% and fishmeal 10.3%, while frozen mince and surimi production fell by a quarter.
At a producer-importer meeting in Minsk, Russian winemakers said their wine holds only 1.5-2 million litres of Belarus's 35-million-litre annual consumption, against an estimated potential of 20 million litres. The Korea Rice Processed Food Association has launched a Rice Processed Food Industry Policy Committee, chaired by former lawmaker Kim Choon-jin, and held its first meeting on the 29th of last month in Seoul. The body will work on the supply system for processing-use rice, domestic demand, K-Rice Food exports and the link to national food security. Processors say they cannot reliably obtain the rice quality they need despite a domestic surplus.
Paddy arrivals have accelerated in Haryana's grain markets and the 1509 basmati variety is selling at 3,800 to 4,400 rupees per quintal, a record for the variety, Dainik Jagran reported from Kaithal. Exporters tie the level to firm domestic and overseas demand, with Iran described as the strongest destination and a 1.2 million tonne rice market. Procurement of 1509 is being done mainly by private agencies, while government agencies buy PR paddy at a support price of 2,461 rupees per quintal.
Snaige, the only refrigerator manufacturer in the Baltic states, has filed for bankruptcy in Lithuania, the business publication dp.ru reported. The petition came from the company itself, and no figures on liabilities, headcount or the shutdown date have been disclosed. Once the line stops, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will cover refrigerator demand entirely through imports.
The third World Durum and Pasta Forum in Rome put the global dry pasta market at €14.6 billion, up 0.8% in the year to 28 June 2026, with production of 6.9 million tonnes. At a National Assembly policy forum on October 1, Samsung Display and LG Display asked the South Korean government to expand tax incentives and speed up industrial infrastructure for AI-era investment. Samsung Display wants the carry-forward period for national strategic technology tax credits extended from 10 to 20 years with no sunset, while LG Display proposed a direct cash refund of part of the credit in the year investment is made.
Poultry meat will soon account for two-thirds of all growth in global meat consumption, according to the Krajowa Rada Drobiarstwa – Izba Gospodarcza, the trade body for Poland's poultry industry. The council frames the shift as a major opportunity for Poland, the European Union's largest poultry meat producer. The projection points to poultry, rather than pork or beef, as the category absorbing new processing capacity and feed demand.
