Earlier Report Observations

The wine market in Central Asia began the period at 183.8 thousand tonnes in 2018, supported by established major producers in Kazakhstan such as SILK ALLEY and BAKHUS. A contraction to 165.5 thousand tonnes followed in 2019, influenced by a 5.4% decline in global wine production due to adverse climatic conditions which constrained supplies to the region. The market stabilized near 164.5 thousand tonnes in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped consumer behavior and logistics.

A sharp drop to 140.2 thousand tonnes occurred in 2021, driven by global climate change that raised production costs and affected product availability. This period also saw new players enter the Kazakh market amid rising investments and capacity expansions. A modest recovery to 144.6 thousand tonnes took place in 2022 alongside the continued development of the domestic industry and shifts in regional excise policy and alcohol regulation. The market then eased to 142.7 thousand tonnes in 2023, pressured by international sanctions and trade disruptions, even as major local companies actively expanded their product assortments.
