Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the uncooked pasta market in Central Asia experienced significant shifts. Initially, growing consumer preference for higher-quality products, particularly pasta made from durum wheat, supported increased consumption. This trend, coupled with an expansion of the product range and new offerings in the mid-price segment, drove market volume to a peak of 31 thousand tons in 2019. However, in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted logistics and supply chains, which, despite an initial surge in household demand during lockdowns, contributed to a contraction of the market to 25 thousand tons.

Post-pandemic stabilization in 2021, aided by the adoption of new packaging technologies, helped the market recover to 28 thousand tons. The following year, however, saw a sharp decline to 15 thousand tons as sanctions and restrictions on the import of raw materials and equipment severely impacted local production and trade flows. By 2023, the market rebounded to 23 thousand tons, fueled by a 5% increase in retail sales, growing output of premium pasta, and the industry-wide implementation of improved packaging and labeling standards.

In 2024, market dynamics continued to be shaped by ongoing investment programs worth around 40 million złoty aimed at automating packaging and expanding premium pasta production. While some major producers faced revenue pressure from declining wheat prices, industry participation in trade exhibitions and the development of new product segments, including fortified and organic options, indicated sustained market activity.
