The wine market volume in ASEAN exhibited considerable volatility between 2018 and 2023. Starting at 126 thousand tons in 2018, it surged to 161.3 thousand tons the following year, only to drop back to 125.3 thousand tons in 2020. The market then entered a phase of rapid expansion, reaching 183.1 thousand tons in 2021 and peaking at 266 thousand tons in 2022.

The peak in 2022 was followed by a contraction to 211.6 thousand tons in 2023. Throughout this period, domestic production remained relatively small compared to trade flows, declining from 14.1 thousand tons to 10.6 thousand tons. Import volumes, after a dip in 2020, recovered and stabilized around 360-368 thousand tons from 2021 onward, while exports showed a declining trend until 2022 before rebounding.

The overall market volume growth from 126 to 211.6 thousand tons over the six-year period was driven primarily by net imports, as production contracted. The sharp fluctuations, particularly the spike in 2022 and subsequent drop in 2023, indicate a dynamic and responsive market to external conditions.
