Earlier Report Observations

The alcoholic beer market in ASEAN saw volume and value growth from 2018 to 2019, fueled by rapid urbanization, higher disposable incomes, and the rising craft beer movement which brought new low-alcohol, gluten-free, and premium offerings to consumers. Market volume then fell in 2020.

Recovery in market value followed from 2021, even as physical volumes fluctuated, supported by the premiumization trend, expansion of the non-alcoholic beer segment, and greater use of e-commerce for distribution. The entry of new players into craft brewing and increased focus on distinctive packaging further energized the market.

By 2023, evolving consumer preferences from Gen Z and Millennials for low-alcohol, flavored, and ready-to-drink options continued to reshape demand. Advances like AI and automation in production, alongside a growing emphasis on sustainability, helped enhance efficiency and product quality, contributing to sustained value growth despite a decline in total volume.
