Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2023, the Norwegian wheat bran market volume showed considerable variation, starting at 116 152 t in 2018 and reaching a peak of 117 840 t in 2019. A sharp decline followed in 2020, reducing the market to 85 830 t. A gradual recovery then took place, with volume climbing to 95 047 t in 2022 before a slight decrease to 92 257 t in 2023.

The market's dynamics were closely tied to domestic production and import trends. Production fell from 95 625 t in 2019 to 76 140 t in 2020, while imports contracted even more sharply from 22 215 t to 9 692 t over the same period. The subsequent recovery was led by production, which rose to 88 560 t in 2022, partially offsetting a continued slide in imports, which dwindled to 4 057 t by 2023.

By the end of the period, the market had not fully regained its pre-2020 level. The consistent decline in import volumes, coupled with a production base that stabilized around 88 000 t after 2021, resulted in a market structure increasingly dependent on domestic output.
