The market volume for wheat bran in Hong Kong showed considerable variation from 2018 to 2023. It grew from 2 172 t in 2018 to 2 300 t in 2019, then declined to 2 136 t in 2020. A recovery followed, with the market reaching a peak of 2 370 t in 2021. Subsequently, the market volume contracted sharply to 1 936 t in 2022 and fell further to 1 797 t in 2023.

Domestic production followed a volatile path, dropping notably to 699 t in 2020 before recovering to 855 t in 2021 and rising to over 1 200 t in both 2022 and 2023. Imports, a key component of supply, expanded consistently until 2021, when they reached 1 587 t. However, imports then halved to 816 t in 2022 and fell again to 573 t in 2023, which was a major factor in the overall market volume reduction.

In 2020, Hong Kong produced 699 tonnes of wheat bran, sharps and residues, marking a significant year-over-year decline of 33.9%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production decreased by 47.6%, with a compound annual growth rate of -19.4%. The largest increase occurred in 2019, at 1.6%.
