The market volume for bran, sharps and residues from cereal or legume processing in Hong Kong experienced significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. Starting at 13 557 tonnes in 2018, it dropped to 12 010 tonnes the following year before surging to 16 301 tonnes in 2020.

After a slight contraction to 15 080 tonnes in 2021, the market expanded sharply to 21 818 tonnes in 2022 and further to 25 277 tonnes in 2023. This overall growth was supported by rising import volumes, which increased from 10 176 tonnes in 2018 to 22 559 tonnes in 2023.

Domestic production remained relatively stable, ranging between 2 781 and 3 420 tonnes over the period, while exports were minimal, not exceeding 165 tonnes in any given year.

The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 3 420 tonnes, with that year seeing a 6.3% increase. However, the sharpest drop occurred in 2019, when production fell by 8.6%.

The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 73 thousand US dollars, which marked a sharp 98.7% decline. However, exports rebounded in 2019, jumping by 768.9%.
