Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2023, the shelled almond market volume in Northern Africa grew consistently from 124 thousand tons to 194 thousand tons. This expansion was supported by robust global demand, particularly from Asian markets, and a worldwide shift in consumer preferences towards healthy, plant-based foods. The increasing popularity of organic and sustainably produced almonds further contributed to higher consumption.

In value terms, the market rose from $730 million in 2018 to $1.26 billion in 2023. However, a temporary dip to $1.11 billion occurred in 2022, likely influenced by global almond price fluctuations linked to exchange rate movements, climatic conditions affecting supply, and speculative market activity. The overall value growth underscores the market's responsiveness to international price signals and underlying demand strength.

The period saw the almond market aligning with broader global trends, including heightened health consciousness and demand for sustainable ingredients. New product segments such as almond flour and almond-based drinks gained traction, reflecting evolving consumption patterns that supported overall market expansion in the region.
