A recovery phase began in 2021, with the market expanding to 2 578 thousand tons. Growth accelerated in 2022, reaching 2 799 thousand tons. The market volume then eased to 2 721 thousand tons in 2023, influenced by unfavorable weather in Morocco where a warm winter and subsequent frosts in regions like Taroudant impacted grape yields.

In 2019, fresh grape production in Northern Africa saw a modest increase of 0.1%. However, by 2020, production had dropped significantly to 2 316 thousand tons, marking a sharp 16.8% decline compared to the previous year. Looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, overall production fell by 18.9%, with an average annual decrease of 6.8%.

In 2018, production value reached its peak at 6 183 million US dollars, representing a substantial 12.6% increase. By 2020, however, the value had fallen to 4 983 million US dollars, down 12.2% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production value decreased by 9.2%, with an average annual decline of 3.2%.

Between 2017 and 2020, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Germany were the primary destinations for fresh grape exports from Northern Africa in volume terms. The United Kingdom accounted for 24.1% of exports, the Netherlands for 22.4%, and Germany for 9.4%. Together, these three countries represented 55.9% of total export flows.

Overall, import levels fluctuated significantly, with a 3.2-fold difference between the high in 2019 and the low in 2018.
