Earlier Report Observations

The pork market in Uzbekistan expanded from 4 446 tons in 2018 to 5 231 tons in 2019. This growth was driven by unexpectedly high demand for pork despite the Muslim-majority population, which stimulated domestic production. High levels of meat imports, including pork from various countries, helped stabilize prices and support market volume.

Market volume then fell sharply to 4 459 tons in 2020 and further to 2 959 tons in 2021. The decline in 2020 was primarily due to reduced imports of live cattle, which led to higher meat prices and dampened consumption. Production and import volumes continued to decrease in 2021, contributing to the lower market size.

From 2022 to 2023, the market continued to contract, reaching 2 148 tons in 2023, though the pace of decline slowed. In 2024, regulatory changes were implemented, including the removal of restrictions on poultry meat exports and the elimination of customs duty benefits for poultry imports. Increased meat exports from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan and higher transport costs were also reported within the broader meat market context.
