In 2024, Suriname Pig Farms NV employed Mennonites to cultivate corn and soy on a large scale for pig feed, a move aimed at reducing production costs. The company, which holds about 8 000 animals and exports to Guyana and Barbados, also imports genetically improved sows to enhance breeding efficiency. Additionally, a draft Food Law was under consideration to update food safety regulations, and a pilot study on African Swine Fever was launched to monitor disease threats.
