The beef and buffalo meat market in Uzbekistan contracted to 994 thousand tons in 2019 from 1 062 thousand tons the year before. A recovery began in 2020 as market volume reached 1 013 thousand tons, aided by the liberalization of foreign economic activity which lowered import duties and encouraged greater meat imports.

From 2021 to 2023, the market entered a period of consistent expansion, growing to 1 180 thousand tons. This was primarily fueled by a 9.2% increase in the national cattle herd, which raised domestic production, alongside market-opening measures such as sanitary agreements allowing imports from Paraguay and a substantial rise in beef shipments from Kazakhstan and Russia.

Imports continued their upward trajectory into 2024, reaching 94 thousand tons, underscoring the market's reliance on foreign supply and ongoing international trade linkages.
