This was followed by a significant contraction of 21% in 2021, bringing the market down to 26,893 t. The following two years saw a steady recovery, with the market reaching 29,920 t in 2022 and 32,772 t in 2023.

Domestic production trends largely aligned with total market movements, declining in 2019 and 2021 before growing in other years. Imports were highly variable, most notably spiking to 2,278 t in 2020, which coincided with the market peak. While import volumes later decreased, they remained elevated compared to pre-2020 levels throughout the period.

From 2017 to 2020, the Netherlands (33.4% of import value), Poland (17.2%), and Belgium (11.6%) remained Ghana's key trading partners for pork imports by value. Collectively, these three countries represented 62.2% of the total import value during this timeframe.
