The ECOWAS pineapple juice market grew strongly from 17.3 million liters in 2018 to 26.4 million liters in 2020. This expansion was supported by regional development initiatives like the WACOMP project, which targeted the pineapple value chain for organic juice production. Increased pineapple cultivation and exports provided more raw material, while new industrial processors, such as PromoFruits Benin with its certified pasteurized juice, entered the market. Regional certifications further eased product distribution across West Africa.

Market volume then fell sharply to 9.8 million liters by 2023. The decline was driven by mounting supply-side challenges, including land pressure in Côte d'Ivoire that constrained pineapple availability for juice processing. Production costs for raw materials, packaging, and energy rose significantly, squeezing margins. Additionally, rainfall in 2023 was 7% below the 30-year average, reducing pineapple yields and further limiting juice production across the region.

Throughout the period, consumer preferences shifted toward natural and organic juices, prompting some producers to adapt their offerings. Public investment plans, like Togo's 2024-2028 pineapple sector strategy, aimed to bolster the value chain, though their effects were not yet visible in the market data through 2023.

The peak value was recorded in 2019 at 15 300 K $ US, which also saw the largest increase of 7.5%.

The lowest export volume was in 2018 at 4 534 K l, which also experienced the largest decline of 20.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, the Netherlands (12.7% of exports in kind), France (6.5% of exports in kind), and Mauritania (1.1% of exports in kind) were the top buyers of pineapple juice from ECOWAS. Together, they accounted for 20.4% of total exports in kind.
