The Turkish pear market volume showed notable fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. Starting at 472.7 thousand tons in 2018, it grew to a peak of 487.7 thousand tons in 2019. A subsequent decline brought the market down to 481.2 thousand tons in 2020 and further to a low of 447.0 thousand tons in 2021, a drop of over 8% from the peak. A partial recovery followed in the next two years, with the volume reaching 461.2 thousand tons in 2022 and 464.3 thousand tons in 2023.

These market volume movements occurred alongside shifts in domestic supply and trade. Production of pears in Turkey generally increased from 519.5 thousand tons in 2018 to 551.1 thousand tons in 2022, before easing to 534.5 thousand tons in 2023. Concurrently, export volumes rose sharply, more than doubling from 46.8 thousand tons in 2018 to 90.5 thousand tons in 2022, which coincided with the period of tighter domestic market supply, especially in 2021 when exports reached 83.4 thousand tons. Imports remained minimal throughout the entire period.

Turkey's pear production grew for the third consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 545.6 thousand tons of pears, representing a 2.8% increase compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, production rose by 8.5%, with an average annual growth rate of 2.7%.

Turkey's pear production value increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the output was valued at 359.2 million US dollars, up by 21.9% year-over-year. From 2017 to 2020, production value grew by 25.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of 7.9%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 242.0 million US dollars, which also saw the largest decline of 15.5%.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia, Iraq, and Romania were the main destinations for Turkey's pear exports in volume terms. Russia accounted for 33.7% of exports, Iraq for 29.4%, and Romania for 7.4%, together absorbing 70.5% of total pear exports from Turkey.

Turkey's pear export value increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 42 517 thousand US dollars, which is 77.6% higher than in 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, export value rose by 111.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of 28.4%.
