Earlier Report Observations

Hungary's fresh pear market volume experienced significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. Starting at 27 387 t in 2018, it gradually declined to 25 789 t in 2020, rebounded to a peak of 27 946 t in 2021, then contracted sharply to 21 091 t in 2022 before partially recovering to 23 926 t in 2023. Domestic production fell from 25 950 t to 16 380 t over this period, with a particularly low output of 13 860 t in 2022.

The market was increasingly supported by growing imports, which rose from 1 548 t in 2018 to 8 444 t in 2023 and reached 9 140 t by 2025. This import growth offset part of the domestic production decline. Global industry trends, such as rising health consciousness and consumer preference for organic fruit, contributed to demand. Increased per capita consumption in major markets during 2021 aligned with Hungary's market growth, while active marketing campaigns by pear industry organizations in subsequent years helped maintain consumer interest.

The fresh pear market in Hungary shifted towards greater import reliance amid falling domestic output. Global factors like supply chain digitalization and economic adjustments influenced trade flows, while industry promotions and sustained demand for healthy, convenient fruit supported market volume despite production challenges.
