The apple market volume in Turkey showed little change between 2018 and 2019, remaining around 3 380–3 390 thousand tons. A substantial expansion began in 2020, with volume jumping 21.6% to 4 090 thousand tons, initiating a multi-year growth phase.

This upward trend continued through 2021 and 2022, pushing the market to a peak of 4 438 thousand tons in 2022. The following year saw a correction, with volume contracting by 4.6% to 4 232 thousand tons in 2023. Domestic production was the primary determinant of market supply throughout the period, given minimal import levels.

In 2020, Turkey produced 4 300 K t of apples, marking a significant increase of 18.8% compared to the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, production grew by 41.8%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 12.4%. The largest increase occurred in 2018, at 19.6%, while the smallest change was a slight decline of 0.2% in 2019.

Exports apple to Turkey

After two consecutive years of growth, apple exports from Turkey declined in 2020. Exports totaled 211.5 K t, a decrease of 17.8% from 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports increased by 4.5%, with an annualized growth rate of 1.5%. The peak export volume was recorded in 2019 at 257.4 K t, and the largest year-on-year increase was 18.0% in 2018.

Between 2017 and 2020, Iraq, Syria, and Russia were the main destinations for Turkey's apple exports in volume terms. Iraq accounted for 39.8% of exports, Syria for 14.7%, and Russia for 11.6%, collectively representing 66.2% of total apple exports from Turkey.
