The Swedish orange juice market experienced considerable volatility in both volume and value between 2018 and 2024. In physical terms, market size started at 88 million liters in 2018, declined to 79 million liters in 2019, and remained near that level in 2020 before recovering to 87 million liters in 2021. A sustained downward trend followed, with volume falling to 73 million liters in 2022 and 65 million liters in 2023.

Market value showed a different pattern, dropping from USD 115 million in 2018 to USD 84 million in 2020. It rebounded strongly to USD 104 million in 2021, dipped again in 2022, and then began to recover in 2023, reaching USD 90 million in 2024. This occurred even as the actual volume of juice sold continued to decrease.

The year 2024 marked a decisive turn: market volume contracted by 20% to 52 million liters, while its value grew 7% to USD 90 million. This paradox was caused by severe global supply shortages. Poor harvests in key producing regions like Brazil and Florida, exacerbated by the citrus greening disease, drastically reduced worldwide orange juice availability. The scarcity triggered a near-doubling of prices, which reshaped the Swedish market by pushing consumers toward alternative juices like apple juice and altering overall consumption habits.
