This growth reversed in 2022 and 2023, with the market falling to 126.1 million litres and then 115.7 million litres. The contraction was driven by a sustained decline in fresh fruit and vegetable sales volumes, high produce prices in Sweden relative to the EU average, and a broader drop in total fruit and berry consumption to levels comparable to the 1980s. Increased consumer interest in organic and locally sourced products did not fully counter this downward trend as retailers struggled to translate the demand into market growth.

In 2024, the fresh produce sector experienced a rebound in sales volume, supported by public health initiatives promoting the daily consumption of fruits and vegetables, which may influence the operating environment for juice producers.
