Earlier Report Observations

The Indonesian orange juice market grew to 13.4 million liters in 2019 as agricultural cooperation with China under the ACFTA framework facilitated imports, while domestic demand remained strong. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted supply chains and dampened consumption, reducing the market volume to 11.1 million liters.

A recovery to 12.0 million liters occurred in 2021, driven by a rise in national orange production to 2.4 million tons and the government's Gelar Buah Nusantara campaign to boost local fruit consumption. However, the market volume fell to 11.3 million liters in 2022 due to policies that restricted orange imports to protect domestic growers, and further declined to 10.2 million liters in 2023 as orange harvests dropped by nearly 30%, tightening the raw material supply for juice.

Imports of orange juice continued to drop in 2024, reaching 2.1 million liters, reflecting persistent low import quotas and new packaging regulations for fruit juices introduced by the Minister of Trade.
