This expansion was initially supported by positive production trends and consumer confidence bolstered by quality studies showing 90% compliance with standards. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 further stimulated demand for citrus products, contributing to a 15.6% market increase that year.

A sharp contraction followed in 2022, with the market volume plummeting to 30 091 тыс. л due to sanctions, logistical disruptions, and rising retail prices that reduced sales. The crisis prompted appeals for state support and threatened shortages. Recovery began in 2023 as the market rebounded to 48 999 тыс. л, aided by new juice production facilities opening in the Rostov region and industry adaptation to upcoming labeling rules.

By 2024, the market stabilized at 47 762 тыс. л, influenced by the phased implementation of mandatory beverage labeling and ongoing competitive pressures from other juice segments. Domestic production, however, declined to 34 561 тыс. л in 2025, reflecting persistent challenges related to raw material access and cost volatility.

Russia's orange juice production grew for the third year in a row. In 2021, the country produced 24 323 thousand liters, marking a substantial 22.1% increase compared to the previous year. Over the 2018-2021 period, production rose by 62.2%, with an average annual growth rate of 17.5%.

Russia's orange juice exports declined for the second consecutive year. In 2021, exports totaled 5 317 thousand liters, showing a significant 19.4% drop from the previous year. The highest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 8 333 thousand liters, which saw the largest increase of 54.4%. The largest decline occurred in 2020, with a 20.9% decrease.

Between 2018 and 2021, the main destinations for Russia's orange juice exports in volume terms were Belarus, accounting for 47.7% of exports, Kazakhstan with 20.0%, and Uzbekistan at 11.7%. Together, these three countries represented 79.4% of total export flows.

Russia's orange juice export value fell for the second year in a row. In 2021, exports amounted to 4 273 thousand US dollars, a slight 1.3% decrease from 2020. Over the 2018-2021 period, export value increased by 7.4%, with an average annual growth rate of 2.4%. The peak value was in 2019 at 5 235 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 31.6%. The largest decline occurred in 2020, with a 17.3% drop.

From 2018 to 2021, Belarus was the leading destination for Russia's orange juice exports in value terms, making up 45.2% of the total. Kazakhstan followed with 18.1%, and Uzbekistan with 14.9%. Combined, these three countries accounted for 78.2% of export flows.
