Earlier Report Observations

Production of prepared peas in Russia more than doubled from 88.2 thousand tons in 2018 to a peak of 172.4 thousand tons in 2023. This expansion was fueled by continuous growth in sown areas and improved yields, supported by state policies for legume crops, new market entrants, and increased investment in agricultural capacity.

The domestic market volume reached 155.7 thousand tons in 2022, driven by heightened production and a shift in consumer demand toward plant-based proteins during the COVID-19 pandemic. The opening of new export markets, particularly China, provided additional incentive for output growth, although rising exports later redirected supply abroad.

Record-high sown areas in 2023 and a 2.5-fold increase in exports contributed to a smaller domestic market volume. A subsequent harvest decline in 2024 further reduced market size, while industry players focused on expanding exports to destinations like India and Pakistan.
