Between 2018 and 2020, the Russian tomato juice market volume fluctuated, reaching 39 707 thousand liters in 2020 after a dip in 2019. The initial level in 2018 was supported by recovering consumer purchasing power and the launch of new production facilities, such as juice plants in the Rostov region. In 2020, despite pandemic-related logistical challenges, continued investment in automation helped sustain production growth.

The market then contracted over 2021-2022, falling to 27 488 thousand liters by 2022. This decline was driven by the rising cost of imported raw materials due to ruble depreciation and, subsequently, by sanctions that severely restricted supplies of tomato paste from the EU, pushing up prices and constraining supply.

A strong recovery began in 2023, with the market volume expanding to 34 365 thousand liters and then surging to 44 605 thousand liters in 2024. This growth was propelled by the commissioning of new large-scale production sites, including juice factories in the Rostov region with billion-ruble investments, and the active construction of major facilities like a 15-billion-ruble plant by the leading producer Sadovodstvo Prirodnoe (Сады Придонья).

Russia's tomato juice production saw a two-year rise before declining in 2021. That year, output reached 37 637 thousand liters, representing a year-over-year decrease of 19.9%. Over the full 2018-2021 period, production fell by 5.2%, which translates to an average annual decline of 1.8%. The peak production occurred in 2020 at 46 994 thousand liters, while the strongest growth was recorded in 2019 with a 9.6% increase.

Following two years of growth, Russia's tomato juice exports experienced a slight downturn in 2021. Export volumes totaled 10 129 thousand liters, reflecting a modest 3.0% reduction compared to 2020. However, over the 2018-2021 timeframe, exports grew significantly by 32.8%, averaging an annual increase of 9.9%. The highest export volume was achieved in 2020 at 10 443 thousand liters, with the most substantial surge occurring in 2019 at 29.1%.

From 2018 to 2021, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine were the primary destinations for Russia's tomato juice exports by volume. Belarus accounted for 41.2% of exports, Kazakhstan for 30.5%, and Ukraine for 20.2%. Collectively, these three markets represented 92.0% of Russia's total export flows in this period.

Over the 2018-2021 period, export value rose by 25.7%, corresponding to a compound annual growth rate of 7.9%. The most significant decline occurred in 2020 at 2.7%, while the largest increase was recorded in 2019 with a 25.6% jump.

The lowest import volume was recorded in 2020 at 3 271 thousand liters, with the sharpest drop occurring in 2019 at 24.0%.

Throughout the 2018-2021 period, Belarus, Armenia, and Kazakhstan were the leading sources of tomato juice imports to Russia by volume. Belarus supplied 53.5% of imports, Armenia 15.2%, and Kazakhstan 9.5%. These three countries together accounted for 78.1% of Russia's total import volume in tomato juice.

Following a two-year decrease, Russia's tomato juice import value increased in 2021. Imports totaled 2 038 thousand US dollars, representing a substantial 20.5% rise from the previous year. The lowest value was recorded in 2020 at 1 691 thousand US dollars, while the most significant reduction occurred in 2019 at 22.9%.
