Earlier Report Observations

The Indian unfermented orange juice market expanded consistently from 2018 to 2021, with volume rising from 101.0 M l to 121.3 M l. This growth was supported by increasing domestic production, which climbed from 93.3 M l to 113.7 M l over the same period.

A sharp contraction occurred in 2022, as market volume halved to 52.2 M l. Production plummeted to 43.5 M l that year, while imports increased to 8.8 M l. The market remained at a reduced level in 2023, with volume edging up to 55.7 M l as production saw a minor recovery to 44.4 M l.

In 2024, regulatory changes shaped the market environment. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India enforced new labeling rules, banning misleading '100% fruit juice' claims for reconstituted juices and requiring clearer packaging. Global factors, such as climate-driven supply shortages in major orange-producing regions, also influenced import prices and availability.
