In 2018, Honduran orange juice production benefited from the widespread cultivation of Valencia oranges, which yield higher-quality juice and have a more extended harvest season. Climatic factors such as humidity and temperature played a role in fruit quality and juice output. The state-owned company Cofrutco was a key producer, exporting concentrate to Central America, the United States, and Puerto Rico. Following this, the domestic market volume fell to 7.43 million liters in 2019 and held steady at 7.54 million liters in 2020.

The market experienced a sharp rebound in 2021, reaching 10.20 million liters, largely due to a significant rise in imports. This was followed by a contraction to 7.56 million liters in 2022 before recovering to 9.21 million liters in 2023, indicating considerable volatility in supply and demand during this period.

By 2024, the global orange juice industry was affected by extreme weather events, supply chain disruptions, and the spread of citrus greening disease. These factors drove international prices to record levels and reduced production in major supplying countries, impacting the availability and cost of orange juice in Honduras, which depends on regional trade.
