Angola's molasses production increased from 30 000 t in 2018 to 43 000 t in 2020, supported by government policies that encouraged local agricultural output and aimed to reduce import dependency. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted supply chains but simultaneously boosted demand for domestically produced food items, which helped sustain molasses output.

Production declined to 37 760 t in 2021 before stabilizing near that level in 2022. During this period, the government continued to implement agricultural stimulation plans like Planagrão, though their full impact on molasses volumes was not immediately realized.

Output recovered to 44 800 t in 2023, coinciding with regulatory changes in the foreign exchange market that improved access to currency for commercial operations and a rise in food prices that may have incentivized production. Into 2024, policies favoring local production remained in focus, while a 4.5% drop in goods imports suggested a further shift toward domestic supply.
