The market volume for liquid eggs in Kazakhstan declined steadily from 576.5 tons in 2018 to 406.2 tons in 2023. Production also fell from 491.8 tons to 442.7 tons over the same period, with a slight recovery in 2023. Imports dropped sharply from 87.3 tons in 2018 to nearly zero by 2022, before a small increase in 2023 and 2024.

The sharp reduction in imports was driven by growing domestic egg production, which reached 4.9 billion units in 2023. Consumer preferences shifted toward locally produced eggs, supported by marketing campaigns emphasizing patriotism and freshness. This shift allowed Kazakhstan to reduce its reliance on imported eggs and even begin exporting liquid eggs, with 40 tons shipped in 2023.

In 2023 and 2024, the government and private sector announced plans to build 39 new poultry farms, which would add capacity for 802 million eggs per year. These investments aim to further increase self-sufficiency, with domestic production already covering 74% of the market in 2024. However, rising prices for eggs, which increased by 15% in 2023, may have contributed to the overall contraction in market volume.
