From 2018 to 2023, poultry meat production in Kazakhstan increased steadily from 366 500 t to 671 500 t. This growth was primarily driven by continuous state support, including subsidies for breeding stock and production cost reduction, which encouraged investment. Despite challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic and avian influenza outbreaks in 2020, government measures and investment projects maintained momentum, with the commissioning of new poultry farms and expansion of existing facilities, such as the launch of 19 new farms in 2023, directly boosting output.

Regulatory measures significantly shaped the market environment. The introduction of the Eurasian Economic Union's technical regulation on poultry meat safety in 2021 established mandatory production and labeling requirements, standardizing quality control. Subsequent strengthening of marking rules and the imposition of tariff quotas on imports under EAEU frameworks helped protect the domestic industry from dumping and avian influenza-related trade restrictions, supporting market stability and product standards.

Domestic consumption of poultry meat rose throughout the period, with total market volume expanding from 549 700 t to 792 500 t. Consumer preference shifted toward poultry due to its lower cost compared to red meat, sustaining demand. Consequently, Kazakhstan's self-sufficiency in poultry meat improved markedly, covering 79% of the domestic market by 2023, up from 58% in 2021, reducing import dependence.

From 2017 to 2020, production grew by 38.5%, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 11.5%.

In 2020, the value of poultry meat and offal production in Kazakhstan was 633.1 million US dollars, showing a modest decline of 7.9% year-on-year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production value increased by 10.5%, with a compound annual growth rate of 3.4%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 509.1 million US dollars, while the highest was in 2019 at 687.3 million US dollars. The largest decrease occurred in 2018, falling by 11.2%, and the largest increase was in 2019, rising by 35.0%.

After two years of growth, Kazakhstan's poultry meat and offal exports declined. In 2020, exports amounted to 12.6 thousand tons, representing an 8.2% decrease compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, exports increased by 112.1%, with an average annual growth rate of 28.5%. The highest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 13.8 thousand tons, which also saw the largest increase of 60.8%.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia and Kyrgyzstan were the main destinations for Kazakhstan's poultry meat and offal exports in volume terms, together accounting for 95.1% of total exports. Other partners each held significantly smaller shares.

The market performance showed noticeable fluctuations during this period. Import levels varied by 2.1 times between the low in 2017 and the high in 2019. In 2020, Kazakhstan's foreign poultry meat and offal supplies amounted to 16.9 million US dollars, a 20.4% decrease from the previous year. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 21.2 million US dollars, which also experienced the largest increase of 78.6%.
