From 2018 to 2019, the liquid egg market in the CIS region grew by 32% in volume to 3 712 t, driven by sustained investment from leading egg producers into processing facilities and restrictions on the import of hatching eggs from Europe due to avian influenza, which encouraged domestic production.

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 shifted consumption towards home cooking, supporting demand for liquid eggs, but falling disposable incomes in 2021 and ongoing import restrictions on hatching eggs pressured production, leading to a market contraction to 3 442 t by 2021.

Sanctions against Russia in 2022 abruptly halted international trade, forcing the market to rely on domestic output and stimulating investment in modernization. By 2023, expanded capacity and a focus on exporting processed egg products, including pasteurized liquid eggs, drove a 12% recovery in market volume to 3 779 t.

In 2020, CIS countries produced 3 545 tons of liquid eggs, marking a 2.8% decrease from the previous year. Looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 24.5%, which translates to an average annual increase of 7.6%. The lowest production level was in 2018 at 2 819 tons, while the peak occurred in 2019 with 3 646 tons. The most significant year-over-year growth was also in 2019, when production surged by 29.3%.

Following two years of growth, liquid egg production in CIS countries experienced a decline. In 2020, the output was valued at 7 407 thousand US dollars, showing relative stability compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production increased by 20.6%, with a compound annual growth rate of 6.4%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 7 431 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest annual increase of 12.7%.

Exports liquid eggs from CIS

After two consecutive years of growth, CIS exports of liquid eggs in volume terms declined. In 2020, exports totaled 986 tons, representing a 3.2% decrease from 2019. From 2017 to 2020, exports rose by 26%, averaging an 8.0% annual growth rate. The peak export volume was in 2019 at 1 018 tons, which also experienced the largest annual increase of 28.4%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Ukraine was the primary market for CIS liquid egg exports in volume terms, accounting for 1.2% of total export flows.

Following two years of growth, CIS exports of liquid eggs in value terms declined. In 2020, exports were valued at 2 061 thousand US dollars, down 0.7% from the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, exports increased by 22.1%, with an average annual growth rate of 6.9%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 2 075 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest annual increase of 11.9%.

Throughout the 2017-2020 period, Ukraine was the leading buyer of liquid eggs from CIS countries in value terms, holding a 1.5% share of total exports.

In 2020, CIS imports of liquid eggs in volume terms totaled 1 069 tons, a 1.4% decrease from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports grew by 27.1%, with an average annual increase of 8.3%. The lowest import volume was in 2018 at 781 tons, while the peak was in 2019 at 1 084 tons. The largest annual decline occurred in 2018 at 7.1%, and the largest increase was in 2019 at 38.8%.

Liquid egg imports into CIS countries increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, imports were valued at 2 320 thousand US dollars, up 5.6% from the prior year. From 2017 to 2020, imports rose by 27.4%, with an average annual growth rate of 8.4%. The lowest value was in 2018 at 1 803 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest annual decline of 1.0%. The largest annual increase was in 2019 at 21.9%.
