The Spanish market for lip and eye make-up preparations contracted significantly between 2018 and 2024, falling from 188.7 million US dollars to 164.1 million US dollars. The most severe drop occurred in 2020, when market size plunged by over a third to 115.2 million US dollars, followed by a further slight decline in 2021.

A pronounced recovery began in 2022, with the market expanding by 22% to 133.6 million US dollars. Growth continued in 2023, reaching 164.8 million US dollars, before stabilizing near this level in 2024 at 164.1 million US dollars. During this period, domestic production fell steadily from 44.5 million to 13.0 million US dollars, while both imports and exports recorded substantial increases.

Spain's production of lip and eye makeup declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, output was valued at 26 914 K $ US, marking a sharp 30.1% drop compared to 2019. Production fell by 36.7% between 2017 and 2020, which translates to an annualized decline of 14.1%. The peak was recorded in 2018 at 44 543 K $ US, with the largest increase that year at 4.7%.

Spain's cross-border shipments of lip and eye makeup decreased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports totaled 1 799 t, reflecting a significant 13.0% decline from 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports dropped by 13.7%, equating to an annualized rate of 4.8%. The highest volume was in 2018 at 2 136 t, with the largest increase that year at 2.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, the United Arab Emirates, Portugal, and Italy were the top buyers of lip and eye makeup from Spain, accounting for 18.7%, 11.4%, and 9.2% of exports in kind, respectively. Together, they made up 39.3% of total exports, with the remaining 60.7% distributed among numerous smaller partners.

After two years of growth, Spain's lip and eye makeup exports in value terms declined. In 2020, exports amounted to 90.7 M $ US, showing a sharp 25.9% fall compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports increased by 10.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 3.4%. The peak was in 2019 at 122.4 M $ US, and the largest increase occurred in 2018 at 24.4%.

The United Kingdom, Portugal, and France accounted for 8.7%, 8.3%, and 7.1% of exports, respectively, totaling just 24.2% of the overall flows. Between 2017 and 2020, imports grew by 26.2%, with an annualized rate of 8.1%. The highest volume was recorded in 2019 at 10 322 t, with the largest increase that year at 69.3%.
