Market growth continued in 2021, fueled by further launches of lacquers with natural and vegan formulas. However, in 2022, the market contracted notably following the withdrawal of products containing prohibited ingredients, such as butylphenyl methylpropional, ordered by the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medical Devices. This regulatory action temporarily reduced available supply, even as companies introduced new butane- and alcohol-free formulations to meet demand for hair-friendly styling.

The market recovered robustly in 2023 and continued to expand in 2024. This growth was supported by sustained innovation focusing on volume, texture, and protection features, alongside industry adaptation to upcoming packaging and labeling requirements under Royal Decree 1055/2022, which will fully take effect in 2025.
