The market for homogenised jams, jellies, marmalades, purées and pastes in Kazakhstan expanded significantly from 3 168 metric tons in 2018 to 7 479 metric tons in 2023, peaking at 8 649 metric tons in 2021. This growth was primarily driven by rising imports, which increased from 2 700 metric tons to 7 417 metric tons over the same period, while domestic production declined from 672 metric tons in 2019 to 265 metric tons in 2023.

The country's reliance on imported jams and fruit products allowed imports to fill growing demand as local processing faced constraints. Financial difficulties among domestic producers, including cash flow issues due to payment practices by buyers, hampered investment and production capacity. Weather conditions affecting fruit and berry yields also contributed to volatility in raw material supply for local manufacturers.

Despite the contraction in local output, Kazakhstan's berry and fruit farming sector saw active development, creating a potential base for future processing growth. Government plans aimed to increase the share of processing in agriculture to 40% by 2024, which could reshape the market structure in the coming years.

In 2020, output reached 542.0 tonnes, marking a 19.3% decrease compared to the previous year. Looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, production increased by 3% overall, which translates to an average annual growth rate of 1.0%. The peak production was recorded in 2019 at 672.0 tonnes, with the largest year-on-year increase of 23.3% also occurring that year.

Cross-border shipments of homogenised jams, jellies, marmalades, purées and pastes from Kazakhstan declined for the third consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 17 tonnes, representing a sharp year-on-year reduction of 51.6%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports decreased by 95.8% in total, equating to an average annual decline of 65.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Mongolia remained the primary markets for Kazakhstan's exports of homogenised jams, jellies, marmalades, purées and pastes in volume terms. Russia accounted for 62.7% of exports, followed by Kyrgyzstan at 15.3% and Mongolia at 11.6%. Together, these three countries represented 89.6% of total export flows.

In 2020, exports were valued at 58 thousand US dollars, down by 72.0% compared to the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, exports decreased by 89.5% overall, with an average annual decline rate of 52.8%.

During 2017–2020, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia were the main destinations for Kazakhstan's exports of homogenised jams, jellies, marmalades, purées and pastes in value terms. Mongolia led with 32.2% of exports, followed by Kyrgyzstan at 29.7% and Russia at 20.0%. Collectively, these three markets accounted for 81.9% of total export value.
