The grape market in Vietnam showed significant volatility in volume from 2018 to 2023. Starting at 60.6 thousand tons in 2018, market size climbed to 77.7 thousand tons in 2019, dipped to 72.2 thousand tons in 2020, and recovered to 75.1 thousand tons in 2021. The most dramatic increase occurred in 2022, when the market reached 105.8 thousand tons, representing a surge of over 40% from the previous year. This peak was followed by a decline to 83.9 thousand tons in 2023.

In value terms, the market followed a similar path, rising from 137.6 million US dollars in 2018 to 179.2 million in 2019, then easing to 168.2 million in 2020. It stabilized around 169.3 million in 2021 before jumping to 240.3 million in 2022. The value also retreated in 2023, settling at 208.4 million US dollars. Domestic production remained relatively steady, ranging between 24.9 and 27.5 thousand tons annually, while import volumes fluctuated widely, indicating that changes in trade flows were the primary driver of market size movements.

Vietnam's grape production increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 27 493 tonnes of grapes, marking a modest rise of 5.2% compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 4.7%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 1.5%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 25 165 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 4.2%.

Between 2017 and 2020, imports increased by 48.8%, equating to an annualized rate of 14.2%. The highest import volume was recorded in 2019 at 51 739 tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 45.9%.

From 2017 to 2020, the United States (45.3% of import volume), Australia (24.1% of import volume), and South Africa (10.8% of import volume) consistently held leading positions in Vietnam's grape import structure. Together, these three countries accounted for 80.2% of total import flows.
