Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, Vietnam's fresh melons and papayas market saw strong growth, with production rising from 1.29 million tons to 1.57 million tons and market volume expanding from 1.13 million tons to 1.51 million tons. This expansion was driven by the widespread adoption of greenhouse and net-house systems, which enabled year-round cultivation and stable supply. Many farms obtained VietGAP and GlobalGAP certifications, opening access to export markets like Japan and Europe and increasing the crop's economic value. The shift of farmers from traditional crops to melons, supported by automated irrigation and high-tech cooperative models, further boosted output and domestic availability.

After a contraction in 2021, where production fell to 1.33 million tons and market volume dropped to 1.24 million tons, the market stabilized and grew moderately through 2023. The government's approval of a national digitalization program for high-tech agriculture between 2021 and 2025 provided support for greenhouse melon cultivation. Enhanced quality control and the application of international certification standards helped improve product competitiveness. By 2023, production reached 1.41 million tons and the market volume recovered to 1.35 million tons, aided by these structural improvements and continued focus on meeting consumer demand for safe, high-quality produce.
