In 2018, the authorization of Spanish table grape exports to China following a state visit created new trade opportunities, contributing to a production volume of nearly 7 million tons. Market volume then fell in 2019 before recovering strongly in 2020, driven by a $115 million increase in export value that boosted both production and domestic consumption.

The market volume declined again in 2021 despite Spain's rich diversity of over 150 grape varieties. Export access to Thailand secured in late 2022 provided support, leading to only a modest decrease in volume that year. In 2023, a steep rise in retail grape prices—reported increases of up to 227% within two months—occurred alongside a significant contraction in market volume, while the sector simultaneously invested in advanced technologies like AI-powered canopy sensors to modernize vineyard management.

The highest production occurred in 2018 at 6 983 K t, with the largest year-on-year increase of 29.6% that same year. In contrast, 2019 saw the steepest decline of 17.7%.

In 2020, Spain's grape output was valued at 16 631 M $ US, a sharp 31.3% rise compared to 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production value increased by 36.5%, averaging a 10.9% annual growth rate. The largest decline was in 2019 at 22.5%, while the biggest increase was in 2018 at 34.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Portugal were consistently the top destinations for Spain's grape exports in volume terms. The United Kingdom accounted for 32.8% of exports, Germany for 21.8%, and Portugal for 10.1%, together making up 64.7% of total export flows.
