Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the Polish grape market volume expanded from 130.1 thousand tons to 140.8 thousand tons, with growth accelerating in 2020. This increase was supported by rising interest in local wines and fresh grape consumption, part of a broader culinary tourism trend. In 2020, severe frosts and damaging rains across the European Union reduced table grape production in the region, likely prompting higher imports into Poland to meet demand.

The market reached its peak volume of 147.7 thousand tons in 2021, the same year Poland introduced a new law on wine products, regulating vineyard registration and wine production through the National Agricultural Support Centre (KOWR). This legislation, fully effective from March 2022, alongside a dynamic expansion of vineyard area from about 50 hectares to over 600 hectares, fueled a sharp rise in domestic grape production for wine. Consequently, while total market volume stabilized in 2022 and dipped slightly to 143.2 thousand tons in 2023, the market's value soared to 287.7 million USD in 2023, driven by the growing wine sector and increased domestic output.
