Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the grape market volume in Central Asia remained stable at around 2.1 million tonnes. This period was characterized by Uzbekistan's ongoing economic reforms, which promoted macroeconomic stability and enhanced production efficiency in agriculture, supporting domestic grape output. In 2020, factors such as rising inflation and shifts in energy prices contributed to a sharp reduction in grape imports, but steady local production led to only a minor market adjustment.

The market expanded significantly in 2021, reaching 2.3 million tonnes, a growth largely attributed to the government's introduction of subsidized crop insurance. This policy reduced risks for farmers and encouraged increased grape cultivation. Subsequently, in 2022 and 2023, the market volume settled near 2.2 million tonnes. During these years, the launch of the digital retail platform Uzum Market in late 2022 began transforming fruit distribution, while the expansion of financial services like the Uzum virtual Visa card and the continuation of insurance subsidies provided further support to the sector.
