Algeria's grape market volume expanded steadily from 513 thousand tons in 2018 to a peak of 637 thousand tons in 2021. This growth was underpinned by a continuous increase in cultivated vineyard area, particularly in the Boumerdès region which accounts for over 50% of national output. The development of early and organic grape production in areas like Ghardaïa, with varieties destined for both the domestic market and export to Europe, further contributed to rising supply.

Following the 2021 peak, market volume stabilized around 622-628 thousand tons in 2022 and 2023. During this period, the industry's focus shifted toward enhancing quality and logistics to boost export potential, alongside investments in processing facilities to produce aromas for beverages and juices. However, climatic fluctuations, including damaging sirocco winds in 2023, affected harvests in the key Boumerdès region, constraining further production growth and impacting the stability of export supplies.

Algeria's grape production grew for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 554.2 thousand tonnes of grapes, marking a slight increase of 0.8% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, overall production declined by 2.2%, with an average annual growth rate of 0.7%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 503.0 thousand tonnes, which represented the largest decline of 11.2% that year. In contrast, 2019 saw the biggest increase, with production rising by 9.3%.
