The Greek grape market volume exhibited significant volatility from 2018 to 2023, starting at 855 thousand tonnes before dropping to 733 thousand tonnes in 2019. The market then stabilized around 738-762 thousand tonnes for the next three years, only to contract sharply to 508 thousand tonnes in 2023.

Domestic production followed a similar pattern, declining from 933 thousand tonnes to 564 thousand tonnes over the period. Exports gradually decreased, while imports remained marginal, never exceeding 8 thousand tonnes per year.

In value terms, the market shrank from $1.6 billion in 2018 to $874 million in 2023, reflecting the substantial reduction in physical volume.

In 2020, Greece produced 815.8 thousand tons of grapes, marking a 1.0% increase compared to the previous year. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 807.6 thousand tons, while the highest was in 2018 with 933.2 thousand tons. The most significant decline occurred in 2019, dropping by 13.5%, whereas the largest increase was in 2018, rising by 12.8%.

Greece's grape production value declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the output was valued at 1 454 million US dollars, reflecting a 2.9% decrease from 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production value grew by 4%, equivalent to an annualized rate of 1.3%. The peak value was recorded in 2018 at 1 765 million US dollars. The most substantial decline occurred in 2019, falling by 15.2%, while the largest increase was in 2018, surging by 26.2%.

Following a two-year decline, Greece's grape exports increased in 2020, reaching 84.7 thousand tons, which represents a modest 4.1% rise compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, exports decreased by 25%, averaging an annualized decline of 9.1%. The lowest export volume was in 2019 at 81.4 thousand tons, with the most significant drop occurring in 2018, falling by 24.6%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands were the top buyers of Greek grapes in terms of volume, accounting for 31.2%, 20.1%, and 11.3% of exports, respectively. Together, these three countries made up 62.6% of Greece's total grape exports by volume.

From 2017 to 2020, export value decreased by 20.9%, with an annualized decline of 7.5%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 150.9 million US dollars, and the largest decline occurred in 2018, dropping by 15.6%.
