Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2023, grape production in Northern Europe increased from 8.7 thousand tonnes to 10.1 thousand tonnes, marking a steady expansion. The market volume, however, peaked at 551.4 thousand tonnes in 2019 before declining to 488.2 thousand tonnes in 2023, a trend accompanied by a fall in imports from 568.6 to 497.8 thousand tonnes over the same period.

A shift in consumer preferences within the region, notably in Sweden, supported demand for specific varieties like Riesling from 2022 onward. This focus on quality grapes contributed to the ongoing rise in local production, which reached 9.4 thousand tonnes in 2022, even as the total market volume contracted slightly.
