Between 2018 and 2019, the treenuts market in Algeria expanded from 68.7 thousand tons to 91.4 thousand tons. This growth coincided with the entry of the Austrian group Agrana Fruit, which acquired a stake in a major local processor and planned to significantly increase local production of food solutions, alongside state-led modernization of wholesale markets that improved distribution networks.

Market volume contracted to 80.9 thousand tons in 2020 due to partial lockdowns that disrupted production and the free movement of fruits and vegetables, leading to regional price disparities and a multiplication of intermediaries. By 2021, the market saw a further slight decline to 77.5 thousand tons, even as import volumes rose steadily.

A strong recovery followed, with the market reaching 94.1 thousand tons in 2022 and 116.7 thousand tons in 2023. This rebound was supported by the construction of seven new wholesale markets by the public company MAGRO, a national strategy to enhance commercialization channels, and record availability of produce at key wholesale hubs like El Kerma in Oran, which improved supply chain efficiency.

Algeria's treenut production reached its lowest point in 2018 at 57,213 tonnes. The following year, in 2019, production peaked at 72,412 tonnes, marking a significant 26.6% increase. However, by 2020, production had declined to 60,832 tonnes, representing a 16.0% drop compared to the previous year.

The lowest export volume was recorded in 2017, while the highest occurred in 2018 at 48 tonnes, representing a peak-to-trough ratio of 22 times. In 2019, exports experienced their largest decline of 57.8%. By 2020, exports had recovered to 33 tonnes, showing a 60.0% year-over-year increase. Notably, the largest increase was recorded in 2018 at 2,088.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, Turkey, Georgia, and Vietnam were the leading destinations for Algeria's treenut exports in volume terms. Turkey accounted for 34.2% of exports, Georgia for 23.1%, and Vietnam for 10.6%. Together, these three countries represented 68.0% of Algeria's total treenut export flows.

In 2019, exports saw their largest decline of 52.0%. By 2020, export value had risen to 115,000 US dollars, showing a dramatic 38.1% increase compared to the previous year. The largest increase was recorded in 2018 at 15,108.8%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Vietnam, Georgia, and Italy were the principal destinations for Algeria's treenut exports in value terms. From 2017 to 2020, the United States, Turkey, and Vietnam formed the main group of sources for Algeria's treenut imports in volume terms. The United States accounted for 44.0% of imports, Turkey for 10.1%, and Vietnam for 8.7%. Together, these three countries represented 62.8% of Algeria's total treenut import volume.
