The grape market in Belarus experienced significant fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. Market volume grew from 50.3 thousand tons in 2018 to 53.7 thousand tons in 2019, then contracted sharply to 45.1 thousand tons in 2020. A strong rebound followed in 2021, with volume reaching a peak of 57.3 thousand tons, before declining again to 45.4 thousand tons in 2022 and further to 43.1 thousand tons in 2023.

The market downturn in 2020 coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted international supply chains and altered consumption habits. The subsequent recovery in 2021 reflected a post-pandemic adjustment in trade flows. However, the market contracted again in 2022, likely influenced by the broader geopolitical tensions and sanctions that affected regional trade patterns.

Domestic production of grapes remained relatively stable throughout the period, ranging between 28.7 thousand and 33 thousand tons, indicating that the volatility in market size was primarily driven by changes in import volumes, which swung from 16.9 thousand tons in 2020 to 32.5 thousand tons in 2021 before falling back.

Belarus's grape production declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 28 667 tonnes of grapes, marking a modest drop of 7.5% compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production increased by 30.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of 9.2%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 33 000 tonnes, which also saw the largest annual increase of 50.0%.

Belarus's grape export volume declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 601 tonnes, representing a sharp drop of 64.4% compared to 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, exports decreased by 87.3%, equating to an annualized rate of 49.7%. The peak export volume was recorded in 2018 at 5 509 tonnes. The largest decline occurred in 2019 with a 69.4% decrease, while the largest increase was in 2018 at 16.4%.
