Earlier Report Observations

The market for fruit and vegetable juices in Trinidad and Tobago contracted significantly from over 900 million liters in 2018 to around 570 million liters by 2020, primarily driven by a steady decline in imports. Production remained stable at just over 7 million liters during this period, indicating that the domestic supply was a small fraction of total market volume.

A dramatic shift occurred in 2022 when the market volume collapsed to merely 7.4 million liters. This was the direct result of a near-complete halt in imports, which fell from 533.1 million liters in 2021 to just 7.9 million liters. Global supply chain disruptions stemming from the Russia-Ukraine conflict severely impacted the availability of fruit and vegetable juices for import, reshaping the market's structure. Consequently, the market became almost entirely supplied by domestic production, which increased to 8.6 million liters.

By 2023, the market volume had slightly decreased to 5.4 million liters, stabilizing at this new baseline. Domestic production held steady at 8.6 million liters, while exports saw a notable increase, suggesting a growing focus on external markets by local producers in the transformed trade landscape.
